Floyd, Happ hit hard

Monday night saw 2 HomeSiders have a rough time. First, in Arlington where J.A. Happ continues to have no luck whatsoever. In the first inning, an error opened the door for 3 runs (just 1 earned), and then in the second inning, he picked a runner off first base, only to have his infielder (Jeff Keppinger) miss the tag. That led to 3 more runs, and by the time the third inning was done, Happ was gone. 2.2 IP, 7 runs, 5 earned, 8 hits and 1 walk, and no help from his mates! Michael Bourn had a hit and a walk and his major league leading 30th stolen base.

Simultaneously, in Chicago, the White Sox got Gavin Floyd a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. After 5 innings, he still had a 3-2 advantage, but the 6th inning was a disater. 4 hitters, 4 runs, 2 dingers and when it was all over, the Cubs had a 6-3 win and Floyd suffered his 7th loss of the season.

In Cleveland, the Rockies beat the Indians, 8-7. Lou Marson had a hit in 3 at bats, but made a costly throwing error attempting a pick-off in the top of the 8th inning which lead to what was eventually the winning run.

In Allentown, newly signed Tim Redding started for the IronPigs, and gave Lehigh Valley 6 innings. Andrew Carpenter came on for 2 perfect innings and was the winning pitcher when the Pigs rallied for 3 in the 8th to gain a 4-3 win. Carpenter is now 5-0, 1.65 on the year. Mike Schwimer notched his 3rd save with a scoreless 9th. The IronPigs are 43-27, and lead Scranton by 5 games in the Northern Division.............In Reading, the R-Phils dropped a 12-inning, 5-4 decision to Erie. Tyson Brummett started and went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3. Chris Kissock gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits in 1 inning, Jacob Diekman walked 2 and struck out 3 in 2 frames, and Chance Chapman got through 2 scoreless innings also, before Derrick Loop gave up the game winner. Derrick Mitchell (#12) and Matt Rizzotti (#13) homered for Reading, and Freddy Galvis got 2 more hits and is now hitting .270.

In Rochester, the Charlotte Knights and the Red Wings split a doubleheader, with Joe Bisenius pitching the opener for the Knights. Joe threw 82 pitches in just 3 innings of work (4 hits, 2 walks, 4 Ks), but did not allow a run and the Knights went on to win that game, 7-2............In Columbus, Jason Donald had a hit, stole a base, and scored a run for the Clippers in their 3-1 win over Toledo...........In Round Rock, Robinson Tejeda (0.66 ERA) threw a 1-2-3 inning for Omaha, but the Express defeated the Storm Chasers, 8-5. Is anyone in the Royals front office paying attention!?
