The Lakewood BlueClaws scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, establishing a new franchise record, to come from 4 runs down and beat Charleston, 13-9. Both Jim Murphy (#7) and Aaron Altherr had 3-run homers in the record setting inning as the BlueClaws took advantage of 6 Charleston errors and 6 walks to score the 13 runs with just 10 hits, but got the big one when they counted. Geancarlo Mendez (.347) continues to be hot, with a single, a triple, a walk, 2 runs scored and 2 driven in, and Edgar Duran added 2 more hits and scored 3 times for the Claws, who took 4 of 5 from Charleston to improve their record to 10-11.
The victory went to Hector Neris in relief, who entered the game with bases loaded and nobody out and immediately got a double play ball to quell that inning before it got out of hand, giving his team the chance to get back in it. The BlueClaws will stay at home and open a 4-game set with Savannah Saturday afternoon.
