Cole in control
In San Diego Friday night, Cole Hamels threw 8 shut out innings, and Ryan Howard had 2 hits, the big one a 2-run triple in the 3rd inning, and the Phillies beat the Padres, 2-0. Hamels allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 8 to improve to 2-1 on the year. For Howard, the RBI's raise his total to 17 on the season, as the Phillies improve to 13-6. Carlos Ruiz had a walk in 4 plate appearances for Philadelphia...............In Milwaukee, Michael Bourn had 2 singles, a double, scored a run, drove one in, AND stole his 9th base of the year, but the Brewers won the game, 14-7. The 3 hits raise Bourn's average to .319............In a game delayed over 2 hours before starting. Matt Maloney made the emergency start after Edison Volquez had warmed up and then the rains came. Matt gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk, and was the losing pitcher as the Cards edged the Reds, 4-2. Maloney's ERA has ballooned to 8.49 for Cincinnati. Yikes!!
