In Houston Sunday, the Astros made it 3 of 4 against the Phillies, dealing Philadelphia's playoff hopes a serious hit, with a 7-6, come from behind win. This time it was Antonio Bastardo and Phillippe Aumont who gave up the deciding runs. Bastardo recorded 1 out, then allowed a runner to reach on an error and walked the next hitter. Both runners scored when Aumont allowed a walk and 2 big hits, before Justin De Fratus restored order with the final 5 outs. De Fratus has thrown 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks so far. Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown each drove in 2 runs, and Darin Ruf pinch hit again in the 7th inning, grounding out. The Phillies are now 4 games out of a playoff spot with 15 games to play.
In Toronto, Anthony Gose (.221) was 0 for 3 for the Blue Jays in their 5-0 win over Boston. Gose has looked more comfortable since being recalled, adjusting his stance and his swing from when he first came up earlier this year............In Chicago, the Cubs beat the Pirates, 13-9. Adrian Cardenas (.212) made a pinch hitting appearance for Chicago, grounding out in the 7th inning. Without going back through the box scores to count, I would estimate Cardenas has pinch hit some 30 times this season..........In Cleveland, the Indians dealt the Tigers playoff push a big blow, scoring 2 in the bottom of the 9th to steal a 7-6 win from Detroit. Quintin Berry, in the starting line up for the second day in a row, had a double in 5 at bats for the Tigers........In Atlanta, the Braves made it 3 in a row against the Nationals with a 5-1 win. Michael Bourn (.277) had a hit and 2 walks, and scored 2 runs for the Braves.
