Pigs, Threshers eliminated

The first 2 of what I assume will be a long list of promotions to the major leagues came yesterday, when The Cubs recalled Adrian Cardenas from Iowa, and the Phillies brought Jake Diekman back to the big team.

Speaking of the Philllies, Philadelphia topped the Braves in Atlanta, 5-1.  Ryan Howard had a single and 3 walks, BJ Rosenberg allowed an 8th inning home run to Martin Prado, before Antonio Bastardo came on for the final 5 outs, picking out 4 Ks.  After struggling through most of 2012, Bastardo seems to have found his groove lately.

In Cleveland, Jason Donald (0 for 3) played shortstop for the Indians in their 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers.

In Allentown, the Buffalo Bison officially eliminated the IronPigs from the playoffs with a 6-3 victory over Jonathan Pettibone.  Pettibone allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in just 5.1 innings of work, sustaining his first AAA loss after 4 wins.........In Portland, the Reading Phillies failed to clinch their spot in the playoffs, falling 6-1 to the Sea Dogs.  Reading managed just 4 hits in the game and saw their lead over New Britain slip to 1 game with 2 left....In Clearwater, the Dunedin Blue Jays dealt the Threshers a tough blow, beating Clearwater 3-1.  Gabriel Arias pitched well for Clearwater in his debut, going 5 innings, and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, NO walks, and struck out 9. Hector Neris and Mike Nesseth finished it off. Carlos Alonso (.277) had the only 2-hit game for Clearwater, who has been eliminated due to tie-breaking procedures.

In Lakewood, Kelly Dugan's quest to hit .300 got a boost on Saturday night, as Dugan picked up 2 singles and a double, raising his average to .298, and the BlueClaws beat Greensboro, 8-3.  Maikel Franco's strong second half continued, as he also had 3 hits for Lakewood.  All 9 hitters got at least 1 hit in the 17-hit barrage.

In Colorado Springs, Anthony Gose (.290) had 2 hits, and Tuffy Gosewisch (.288) belted a 3-run home run for Las Vegas, but the 51s lost a 10-9 game to the SkySox.......In Oklahoma City, Jarred Cosart allowed just 1 UNearened run in the first inning of his 6-inning final start for the RedHawks, who lost to Round Rock, 6-3 by giving up 5 in the 9th.  Jarred combined to go 6-7, 3.30 in 21 games in AA and AAA.......In San Antonio, Jonathan Singleton (.285) had 2 hits and walk for Corpus Christi in the Hooks' 11-1 win over the Missions.  Josh Zeid recorded 4 outs (2 hits, 1 walk, 2Ks) for the Hooks......In San Bernadino, the Lancaster JetHawks exploded for a 23-12 win over the Mavericks.  Domingo Santana (.303) had 2 hits, including his 22nd home run and 96th RBI for Lancaster.  In Bakersfield, Travis Mattair (.270) had 2 hits and his 81st RBI for the Blaze in their 10-7 win over the Quakes.  I Believe both Lancaster and Bakersfield are heading to the playoffs this week!
