In Philadelphia Tuesday, the Phillies made it 6 in a row and got themselves back to the .500 level at 71-71 with 20 games left, with a 9-7 win over the Marlins. Combined with the Cardinals' 6-4 loss to the Padres late last night, Philadelphia is now just 4 games out of a wild card playoff spot! Domonic Brown had 2 more hits and an RBI, Carlos Ruiz had a hit and a walk, scoring a run and driving in another, and Ryan Howard also had a hit in the game. BJ Rosenberg came on with 2 on and 2 out in the 7th inning and stranded the 2 runners, picking up his 2nd major league hold.
In Toronto, Anthony Gose (.227 and rising) had a hit and a walk, and scored a run for the Blue Jays, who dropped a 4-3 decision to Seattle...........In Houston, Adrian Cardenas had a walk in 2 at bats for the Cubs in their 1-0 defeat to the Astros...........In Arlington, Jason Donald was 1 for 3, playing 3rd base for the Indians in their 6-4 loss to the Rangers.......Michael Bourn was 0 for 4 in Milwaukee, as the Braves were shut out, 5-0 by the Brewers...........In Denver, the Rockies late rally came up short and the Giants prevailed, 9-8. Josh Outman threw a 1-2-3 inning, striking out 1 for Colorado.
In Pawtucket, the Red Sox took the opener of International League Championship with a 7-2 win over Charlotte. Greg Golson (.333 in the playoffs) was 1 for 4 and scored a run for the Knights.
In Lancaster, the JetHawks took a 9-6 win from the Mavericks to advance to the California League Championship. Domingo Santana was 0 for 4 for the JetHawks. They will play the survivor between Bakersfield and Modesto. Modesto even the series at 2-2 with a 3-2 win last night, with Travis Mattair going 0 for 3, with a walk for the Blaze.
