Tuesday in Cincinnati, the Reds edged the Phillies, 2-1 as Matt Latos outpitched Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick (8-10, 3.96), who had won his last 4 starts, lasted 6 innings and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 3. BJ Rosenberg (1 walk, 1 K), Jake Diekman (walk to his only hitter) and Justin De Fratus (1 walk) combined to toss a scoreless inning in the 8th. Ryan Howard (.239) was 1 for 3, and Domonic Brown drove in the Phillies' run with a bases loaded walk.
In Toronto, the Orioles used their 12-0 win over the Jays to tie the Yankees for first place. Anthony Gose, recalled earlier yesterday, was used as a pinch hitter, flying out in the 8th inning.......In Washington, Adrian Cardenas was also used in the game late, striking out in his only at bat for the Cubs in their 11-5 loss to the Nationals.........In Detroit, Lou Marson had a walk in 4 plate appearances for the Indians, as they beat the Tigers again, 3-2. Quintin Berry was used as a pinch hitter, grounding out in his only at bat for Detroit.
In Atlanta, the Rockies shut out the Braves, 6-0. Michael Bourn (.284) had a hit and a walk, and was thrown out attempting to steal. Mike still leads the National League with 38 stolen bases...........In San Francisco, Mike Zagurski pitched a scoreless inning (1 walk, 1 K), stranding 2 inherited runners for Arizona in the Diamondbacks' 8-6, 11-inning win over the Giants.
