Howard slam caps off big night

Ryan Howard hit a grand slam home run and drove in 5 runs as the Phillies scored 8 in the 1st and then 7 more in the 9th en route to a 16-1 smashing of the Mets.  Tyler Cloyd was outstanding, and with all the pressure off with an 8-run lead before he took the mound, Cloyd (2-1, 3.86 since his call-up) went 8 innings and allowed New York just 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 6.  BJ Rosenberg tossed a scoreless bottom of the 9th, and Domonic Brown (.253) had 3 more hits and drove in a run for the Phillies.  The win for Cloyd was #64 for the HomeSide this year.

The Phillies are still 4 games behind the Cardinals, who beat Houston, with 12 games to play.

Across town in the Bronx, the Yankees beat Toronto, 10-7.  Anthony Gose had a double and 2 walks for the Blue Jays............In Cleveland, Lou Marson was 0 for 3 with a walk for the Indians in their 4-3, 10-inning win over Minnesota, and in Chicago, Adrian Cardenas had another pinch hit appearance, grounding out for the Cubs in Chicago's 5-3 loss to the Reds.  The Reds and the Washington Nationals both earned playoff berths last night.
