late night in Philly

The overall story is the Phillies beat the Reds, 5-4 in 19 innings Wednesday night. Here are the details pertaining to the HomeSiders. First, Mike Stutes relieved Roy Halladay in the 8th inning and struck out the side, giving up 1 hit. Then, in the top of the 10th, Antonio Bastardo gave up a home run to Jay Bruce to give the Reds a 4-3 lead. It was only the 3rd run allowed by Bastardo in 18 innings so far. In the bottom half, Ryan Howard belted his 11th home run of the year, tying the game at 4-4, and sending it deep into the night. Howard had 2 hits and 2 walks on the night, Domonic Brown entered the game as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning (and got 5 plate appearances), going 0 for 4 with a walk, and Carlos Ruiz was 1 for 7 with a walk and a run scored. Kyle Kendrick bailed out Bastardo, and struck out both batters he faced.

Great game by Gavin Floyd in Texas, but he was out-dueled by C.J. Wilson and the Rangers, 2-1. Gavin worked 7+ innings, and allowed 2 runs (only 1 earned), on just 3 and 1 walk, but came up on the losing end. Floyd is now 5-4, 3.61 for the Sox.............In Houston, Michael Bourn led off the bottom of the 1st with his 1st home run of the season, and Houston went on to beat the Dodgers, 2-1........In Baltimore, Robinson Tejeda made his 2nd appearance since returning from the DL, and allowed a home run to Mark Reynolds of the Orioles in Baltimore's 9-1 win over the Royals. Tejeda has given up a run in each of his innings since coming back........In Cleveland, the Red Sox cooled off the Indians 14-2. Lou Marson was 0 for 4 for the Indians, and has not had a hit since May 7, going 0 for 12.
