Wonderful Worley

Vance Worley continues his storybook entrance into the big leagues. Vance picked up his second win in as many starts this year with 6 strong innings against Washington Wednesday night. He allowed just 1 run on 4 hits, NO walks, and recorded 7 strike outs to improve to 2-0, 0.75 for the year. In his career, Vance has been in 7 major league games, with a 1.08 ERA and 3 wins in 25 innings.

Mike Stutes, a teammate of Worley's here in Lakewood, also threw a scoreless inning as the Phillies won the game, 7-4.

In Lakeland, the Threshers defeated the Flying Tigers, 3-2 in 14 innings. Jiwan James, Darin Ruf and Sebastian Valle (2 RBI) all had 3-hit games for Clearwater, Jeremy Barnes had 2 hits and 2 walks, and Leandro Castro got the game winner. Jonathan Pettibone was solid again. This time he went 7 innings, giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits, NO walks, and 4 strike outs. Joe Esposito pitched 3 scoreless extra innings, keeping the game alive for Castro's heroics.

Justin Friend, who the Phillies selected in the minor league phase of the rule 5 draft last December, registered his 10th save for Clearwater. He has saved every game he has been in this year, throwing a total of 13.2 innings and giving up just 1 run, for a 0.66 ERA.
