Marcos Frias seems to be the only Hagerstown Suns pitcher to be able to beat the BlueClaws, and he did it again Monday night in Lakewood. Frias improved to 9-4 on the year as the Suns beat Lakewood, 5-3. Anthony Gose had 3 hits, 2 RBI and a stolen base #75 to pace the Lakewood attack. Harold Garcia and D'Arby Myers had 2 hits each for Lakewood, who have been hitting the ball better lately and look to get the ship going in the right direction by the time the playoffs start next Wednesday.
A quick word about Garcia. Harold has been having a very consistent season, leading the team with a .293 average, and his 40 steals would be a bigger story if not for the season Gose is having. Garcia has been out of the line up a couple of times with injuries and the line up has suffered each time he was out. The combination of Gose and Garcia (or Garcia and Gose) at the top, along with the emergence of Myers in the #9 slot, has really set the table for Travis d'Arnaud and Jim Murphy and will be key if the 'Claws are to have post-season success.
Justin De Fratus left the game in the second inning, looking as if he pulled something in his left side (an oblique?). I have not heard about the nature of the injury, but Justin did give me a "thumbs up" later when I caught his eye.
