Cole being Cole

It has not been the best baseball season for Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, but I would have to say he has come around at the right time. Cole threw a complete game 2-hit shutout at the Giants in Philadelphia last night in the Phillies 1-0 win, to win his 8th game of the year. He also picked off a runner and stole a base!! In his last 2 starts, Hamels has thrown 17 straight scoreless innings. Ryan Howard had 2 hits for the Phils, including an RBI (#112) double for the lone run.

In Detroit, Carlos Carrasco made his major league debut for the Cleveland Indians, and let's just say we hope it was a learning experience. The first place Tigers smacked Carlos around for 6 runs on 9 hits (3 homers) in just 3 innings, en route to an 8-5 win. Carrasco will pitch in the rotation, barring a repeat of last night's performance, for the remainder of the Indian's schedule. His next start will be Monday, against the Texas Rangers.

In Chicago, Michael Bourn had 3 for 4 and stole #49, but the Cubs managed to overcome his efforts to post a 4-1 win over Houston. Bourn is hitting .296 now for the Astros.
