Moose home run gives Claws a win

Travis "Moose" Mattair has been testing the far reaches of the First Energy Park outfield lately, with most of his long fly balls finding the warning track in deep center. So Tuesday night he hit one into left centerfield and just kept running, providing the Lakewood BlueClaws with the margin of victory in their 3-2 win over Hagerstown. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Moose, who drove in a run earlier on a sac fly. Eryk McConnell was the winning pitcher, after a great effort from Trevor May, who threw another 5 shut out frames to start the game. May is 3-1 in 14 starts for Lakewood, posting a very impressive 2.74 ERA in 74 innings of work.

Travis d'Arnaud continued his hot hitting, smacking a single and a double, and is 5 for his last 11. While they have not been as impressive as they were in the first half, the good starting pitching, and the hot hitting lately of d'Arnaud, Harold Garcia, Jim Murphy, Jeremy Hamilton, Anthony Gose and D'Arby Myers give this team as good a chance as any in the upcoming SAL playoffs.

Lakewood has also added pitcher Austin Hyatt from Williamsport. Hyatt, out the University of Alabama, was selected in this June's draft and has pitched 54.1 innings for the Crosscutters, allowing just 4 earned runs (That is a 0.66 ERA) with 81 strike outs!!
