The Lakewood BlueClaws got 2 hits each from Harold Garcia (double, home run, 2 RBI) and Travis d'Arnaud (.545 in playoffs) and spread the pitching a round well enough for a 6-3 win in game 1 of the SAL finals. Matthew Way struggled through 4.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks, and was working out of trouble almost constantly. Luke Wertz was awarded the win, pitching 1 clean inning and stranding 2 inherited runners to keep Lakewood in a 3-2 lead at the time. Jacob Diekman finished off the 6th inning, Clay Condrey made a rehab assignment and allowed a run in the 7th, before Austin Hyatt and Santo Hernandez each threw a scoreless frame to end it.
Lakewood now hold a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 series. Game 2 is tonight in Lakewood, with Jesus Sanchez (10-6 this year)making his playoff debut.
Tonight in Memphis, Adrian Cardenas and the Sacramento River Cats take on the RedBirds in game 1 of the PCL final.
