Dogs edge R-Phils

The Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Reading Phillies 4-3 in Maine Thursday night in the opener for both clubs. Josh Zeid was the starter and losing pitcher, working 5 innings and giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5. Tyson Brummett threw 2 scoreless frames, then Jacob Diekman retired 2 and walked 2. Harold Garcia had 2 hits for Reading and Tuffy Gosewisch hit his first home run of the year. Freddy Galvis drove in the other 2 runs......Also in the Eastern League, Mike Dubee came into a tie game in the 8th inning for Altoona and surrendered the winning run in the 9th in Erie's 3-2 win over the Curve. Dubee threw 1.2 innings, giving up the 1 run on 2 hits. He struck out 3 of his 5 outs.......In Manchester, the Trenton Thunder defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 5-1. Anthony Gose was 1 for 3 for New Hampshire and stole 2 bases. Travis d'Anaud was 0 for 4 for the Cats.
