Threshers drop first

The Daytona Cubs snapped the Thresher's 4-game winning streak with a 6-5 victory over visiting Clearwater Monday. Julio Rodriguez made the start for Clearwater and only managed to go 3.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks, striking out 4. Joe Esposito came on, got out of that jam and worked in and out of trouble for 2.2 innings, without allowing a run to score. Jordan Whatcott, a non-drafted free agent who was signed out of Utah last June, came on and gave up 4 runs in the 7th, before recovering and throwing a scoreless 8th. Joe Savery ( .778, single, double, walk, run scored), Sebastian Valle (single, double, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Leandro Castro (.474, single, double) continue to lead the offense. Cesar Hernandez, the 20 year old second baseman from Venezuela, is struggling. Hernandez, who played at Williamsport last year, is just 3 for 23 (.130), with 6 strike outs.
