Overbeck on a roll

The Phillies beat the Marlins, 3-2 on Sunday behind good pitching from Cole Hamels. Cole battled his way through 7 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 7 and receiving no decision. Ryan Howard was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored a run, and Carlos Ruiz was 0 for 3, but drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.........In Syracuse, the IronPigs scored 6 runs in the 8th inning to steal a 10-6 win from the Chiefs. Mike Stutes threw the final 2 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits and 2 walks, and striking out 4 to record his 2nd win of the season.............A big day in Reading, as the R-Phils swept a doubleheader from Akron, 5-2 and 5-4. In the first game, Harold Garcia and Cody Overbeck both had 2 hits, including home runs and also drove in 2 runs each. J.C. Ramirez was the winner, going 6.1 inning and recording the win, and Chance Chapman picked up the final 2 outs to notch the save. In game 2, Josh Zeid gave up 4 runs in the first inning, and did not get out of the second, but the Phillies came back in that one, too. Tyson Brummett took over for Zeid, stranded 2 inherited runners and pitched 3.1 innings overall, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks, striking out 4. Jacob Diekman struck out the side in the 6th inning, and Justin De Fratus worked in and out of trouble for 2 innings and picked up the win when Mike Spidale singled in Derrick Mitchell. It was Spidale's 3rd hit of the day. Mitchell had homered earlier, as did that man again, Cody Overbeck- who hit his 5th home run of the year, and his second of the day. Overall Cody drove in 5 of Reading's 10 runs...........In Clearwater, the Thresher were held to just 5 hits, 2 by Joe Savery, and lost to Daytona, 3-1. Savery drove in the only run for the Threshers, and is now hitting .550. Jarred Cosart was the hard luck loser, going 6 good innings and giving up just 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk, striking out 6. Joe Esposito threw 2 more shut out innings in relief, to remain unscored upon in 2011.
