Floyd, Hamels both win 3rd

On Tuesday night in the Bronx, Gavin Floyd pitched a masterpiece against the Yankees, picking up his 3rd win of the season in the White Sox 3-2 win. Gavin allowed just 4 hits, the final one a leadoff single by Derek Jeter in the bottom of the 9th that signaled the end of then evening for Gavin . He walked only 1 and struck out 10 in throwing 102 pitches, and improved to 3-1.

Then, Wednesday afternoon in Phoenix, Cole Hamels bounced back from an off outing, giving up just 3 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk, striking out 8 Diamondbacks in the Phillies 8-4 victory. Hamels is also 3-1, and that makes a total of 10 victories in the major leagues this April by the "Lakewood 5". Add in wins in relief from Kendrick and Bastardo, and BlueClaw alumni have 12 wins in the major leagues early this year.


In Clearwater Wednesday afternoon, Domonic Brown had 2 hits including a home run, Sebastian Valle had 2 hits and scored 2 runs, and Brian Gump hit a 3-run homer as the Threshers beat Lakeland, 8-6. Julio Rodriguez improved to 3-0 on the year, allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits and a walk, striking out 6 in 5 innings of work.
