The Lakewood BlueClaws ended the 6 game losing streak on Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Power. Dennis Winn (.300) provided the game winning hit, a 2-run home run (his 2nd) onto the left field berm, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. Michael Taylor (.347) provided the BlueClaws earlier run with his 7th Home run of the year. Taylor now has 29 RBI, and is 3rd in the S.A.L. in batting.
Julian Sampson was pitching beautifully through the slippery conditions, and was still working on a shut out in the 6th inning, when a hard drive off the bat of Zelous Wheeler caught Sampson in the left rib cage. He has a big welt on the ribcage and will probably have to have x-rays. He was removed from the game, his best outing of the year, to a nice ovation from the HomeSide and the rest of the Lakewood faithful. Sergio Escalona was the winning pitcher, and Jared Simon recorded his 4th save.
Lakewood will go for the split Monday, Jacob Diekman on the hill, still looking for that elusive first win of the season. My pal, the Phillie Phanatic will be in the house tonight.
