The BlueClaws won their 6th straight game, and 8th in the last 9, 4-3 over West Virginia on Monday behind strong bullpen pitching. After Drew Naylor started and pitched to 3 hitters, there was a rain delay of over an hour and Naylor could not return. Drew will probably make his next start earlier than expected during the big series with first place Lake County which starts Wednesday after one more game with the Power. Sergio Escalona took over for Naylor, and was followed by Zack Sterner, who picked up his second win in his second appearance and has yet to allow a run, Joe Rocchio and Jared Simon, who notched his 7th save despite giving up a run. Freddy Galvis had 4 hits to lead the offense, Michael Taylor (.361, 2 singles, 2 walks, RBI #37) and Dominic Brown (.286, single, double, run scored) added 2 hits apiece, and Derrick Mitchell homered for the third straight game. Take that, Toastman!!
Lakewood is 5 games back of the Captains with 19 games to go in the first half.
Juan Richardson's hot streak is also ongoing. The original BlueClaw has had a smoking hot month of May, hitting .356 this month for Northwest Arkansas. This raises his overall number to .302, 12 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs and 26 RBI for the Royals affiliate.
I also noticed Jake Blalock has been promoted back to Reading from Clearwater. Jake was with the R-Phils earlier in the year when I saw them in Connecticut, but has been with the Threshers for most of the month. Orlando Guevara made his 3rd start for Reading yesterday, picking up his first hit of the season since coming off the DL. Reading defeated Binghamton 8-7, Joey Hammond leading the attack with 3 hits, Greg Golson(.325) and Jason Donald (.302) adding 2 hits each.
