The tandem of Greg Golson and Lou Marson combined for 8 hits, 2 home runs, and 11 RBI Sunday as the Reading Phillies clobbered Akron, 14-1. Golson was 5 for 6, 4 singles, a 3-run homer, 5 RBI, 3 runs, and his 14th stolen base. Not to be outdone, Marson clubbed 2 RBI-singles, and a grand slam home run, 6 RBI, and 2 runs. The HomeSide grapevine tells me Lou had his parents in attendance in Reading, and had himself a big game. How cool is that!!
Other former BlueClaws getting into the act: Mike Spidale (2 singles, 2 runs), Javon Moran (.298, 2 singles, 2 runs), Jason Donald (.296, single, double, walk, 3 runs, RBI) and Jeremy Slayden (2 singles).
Lost in the offensive explosion was another outstanding pitching performance by Antonio Bastardo. The little lefty threw 6 more solid innings, allowing just 1 run, 3 hits and 3 walks and striking out 5, to pick up his 2nd win for Reading. He also won 2 in Clearwater. His combined ERA for both teams is an amazing 1.82. Josh Outman took over, throwing 2 more scoreless frames and looking very comfortable coming out of the pen. Pat Overholt (0.87 ERA) pitched the 9th.
