Late Friday night in San Fransisco, Cole Hamels battled his way through 7 innings, and was the beneficiary of a 3-run top of the 8th, as the Phillies beat the Giants 7-4. Cool Cole gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 7, and slammed the door on the Giants after allowing 4 runs in the first 4 frames. He also got a base hit, and is batting .286! Ryan Howard was 1 for 5, but it was a LONG single, which hit the right field wall (and would have been a home run at home) and rebounded right back to Randy Winn. Carlos Ruiz also had a single and 2 RBI. Brad Lidge picked up his 9th save and has yet to allow a run this year.
In Los Angeles, the Astros topped the Dodgers, 7-1. Michael Bourn was 1 for 5, but did steal his major league leading 16th base. Mike is yet to be caught this year and is 35 for 38 in his major league career.
In San Diego, the Rockies defeated Jake Peavey and Padres, 4-2 behind Aaron Cook, who registered his 6th win of the season. Taylor Buchholz required just 10 pitches to dispatch to Padres in the 8th inning, recording his 7th "hold" and reducing his ERA to 1.74. That's 4 earned runs on 11 hits in 20.2 innings of work for Taylor.
