The slide continues for the Lakewood BlueClaws as the West Virginia Power swept a double header from Lakewood Saturday to push the losing streak to a season high 6 game. OUCH!
In the opener, Lakewood got RBI hits from Dominic Brown (.290, 20 RBI) and Mike Durant (.259, 22 RBI) to grab a 2-0 first inning run, but could not manage a hit after that inning, falling to West Virginia 5-2, and losing for 5th consecutive game after having the lead. Walter Tejeda fell to 3-2 on the year, pitching 5 innings and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4.
The Power completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in the nightcap despite 3 hits from Karl Bolt and 2 more line drive extra-base hits from Michael Taylor. Taylor smacked his 8th double of the year, and his 2nd triple (which I thought was gone when he hit it) and drove in his 28th run of the year. He also threw out a runner at home plate on a great throw. Chris Kissock limped through 3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits to absorb his second loss.
Lakewood will try to right the ship this afternoon with Julian Sampson (2-1, 6.27) on the mound.
