Japan ousts Cuba

Last night in San Diego, Japan shut out the powerful Cubans for the second time in a week, defeating the Island nation, 5-0, eliminating Cuba, and advancing into the semifinals. Japan will join Korea, Venezuela and the United States in the final 4. Korea and Japan will play a game tonight for the pool championship, deciding the match-ups for the weekend. Venezuela topped the USA 10-6 last night as injuries have begun to catch up with the Americans. The latest casualty had Kevin Youkilis returning to Red Sox camp, leaving Adam Dunn to play first base for Team USA. The Cubs' Derek Lee is a possible addition, but he has been injured this week, and is hitting just .179 so far for the Cubbies. In the game, Victor Moreno pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning for Venezuela.

Venezuela will take on the loser of tonight's Korea v Japan match on Saturday, with the winner of tonight's contest facing the USA on Sunday. The 2 survivors will play for the championship Monday night. All 3 of those games will be at Dodger Stadium in LA, on ESPN.
