Phillies deal Paulino

The Phillies traded Ronny Paulino late Friday night to the Giants in exchange for left handed reliever Jack Taschner. While the Phils did this to get another lefty in the bullpen while J.C. Romero serves his 50 game suspension, it also has an effect on the catching situation throughout the system. This means Chris Coste will stay with the Phillies as Carlos Ruiz' back up and Lou Marson will undoubted by the everyday catcher in Lehigh Valley. It may also aid J.A. Happ in his efforts to make the starting rotation, because Philadelphia will not need his left-handed arm in the bullpen. Happ and Chan-Ho Park have been competing for that spot, but Park has shown his effectiveness also out of the 'pen last year in LA, and the addition of Taschner alleviates the need for Happ there.

Paulino, who came over from the Pirates in the December trade for Jason Jaramillo, was then moved to the Marlins for pitcher Hector Correa. So Paulino has belonged to 4 different organizations in less than 100 days!!
