Sunday recap

The Phillies made it 2 in a row on Sunday, coming from behind to beat the Braves, 7-3. Jeremy Slayden had a double and scored a run, Ryan Howard walked and scored, Jason Donald, who has played in every game so far this spring, walked twice, Carlos Ruiz had a 2 RBI single, and Lou Marson got into his 3rd game of the spring. Joe Bisenius, who had a rough outing earlier this week, pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning.

Toronto topped Tampa, 6-3, with Randy Ruiz going 1 for 1, a single with a run scored. Ruiz is 3 for 6, with a walk so far for the Blue Jays. The Mets blasted the Astros 13-1. Michael Bourn, Ruiz' teammate in Lakewood in 2004, had a walk in 3 at bats for Houston.

Out west, Arizona defeated Oakland, 9-7. Josh Outman made his second appearance this spring, working 2 innings for the Athletics. Outman gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2.

Any players participating in the World Baseball Classic will report to their respective camps tomorrow. This will probably allow more minor leaguers to get into major league preseason games, so I will be carefully checking every day.

The Major league season begins 5 weeks from tonight when the Phillies host the Braves, the minor league season kicks off 4 days later. Lakewood, Clearwater, Reading and Lehigh Valley all open the 2009 season at home.
