Kendrick clouted

The Atlanta Braves roughed up Kyle Kendrick on Wednesday, scoring 8 runs on 10 hits and a walk in only 3 innings against the young righthander. 2 of the 10 hits were home runs, both by Atlanta's young catching prospect, Clint Sammons. Joe Bisenius pitched a scoreless 9th inning, having been returned from Team USA. On the offensive side, Jason Donald had 2 singles and a double, scored twice and is 8 for 11 in the last 3 games. Ryan Howard was 1 for 3, scored a run and drove in 2, and Carlos Ruiz, who has returned with Panama's elimination from the WBC, had a walk in 3 plate appearances. Lou Marson appeared as a pinch hitter, and drew a walk.

Michael Bourn was 0 for 3 in Houston's 8-2 loss to Cincinnati. Pittsburgh and Toronto played an 11-inning, 2-2 tie. Jason Jaramillo was 0 for 3 for the Pirates and Randy Ruiz struck out in his only at bat for the Jays.

In the WBC, Venezuela beat the USA, 5-3 to capture the "pool C" title and Puerto Rico shut out the Netherlands, 5-0 to win "pool D". This sets up Saturday's match-ups in Miami as follows: Netherlands v Venezuela at 1:00 PM, and USA v Puerto Rico at 8:00. Both games will be on MLBN.

Mexico eliminated Australia, 16-1, avenging an earlier loss to the Aussies, and will face Cuba tonight in a game that will decide the match-ups for Sunday's games in San Diego. Brad Harman was 0 for 2, Joel Naughton 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter, and Drew Naylor came in the game and faced 4 hitters, retiring 1 and allowing a walk and 2 hits, all 3 runners scoring. The trio will now return to Clearwater and rejoin minor league camp.
