Braves beat Lidge, Phillies

The Atlanta Braves scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th inning off of Brad Lidge to beat the Phillies, 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. Lidge blew his 8th save of the year and saw his ERA balloon to 7.27 on the season, this time costing Cole Hamels the win. Cool Cole went 6 innings, and left with a 3-2 advantage. Ryan Howard drove in his 87th run of the season, and Carlos Ruiz had 2 hits for the Phillies.

A few years ago, the Phillies traded Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez for Freddy Garcia. While Garcia won just 1 game for Philadelphia, Floyd and Gonzalez have had better luck. Yesterday, in Oakland, they faced each other, and Gavin (10-7) came out on top, throwing 7 innings, and giving up just 1 run on 8 hits, striking out 8 and walking 2 in the Sox' 8-1 win over the Athletics. Gio did not fare so well, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits in 5 innings, to fall to 4-3 for Oakland on the season.

Last night in St. Pete, Randy Ruiz had 2 more hits for the Blue Jays, but the Rays topped Toronto, 5-2.
