Susdorf promoted, Slayden retires

The Phillies have announced Steve Susdorf has been promoted to Reading and Jermey Slayden has retired.

Susdorf is worthy of the promotion, but the handling of Jeremy Slayden has been questionable. Slayden came out of Georgia Tech and played his way through the system, improving his numbers at each level until this season, where he struggled to get into games. Wasting away on the Lehigh Valley bench, he was eventually reassigned to Reading, where he tore it up for awhile, before losing time there, also. I understand there is a glut of outfielders in the system, but is this how you reward a player who has done everything you have asked, step by step, over the years? As I said, questionable.
The next question is what is next for Mike Spidale?

That being said, I have to admit, the outfield of Berry, Brown and Susdorf, while exclusively left-handed, is exciting to me as Reading fights its way towards the playoffs!
