Randy Ruiz (.325) had 2 singles, a double, a walk, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI (99) to help Las Vegas to a 14-1 pounding over the Portland Beavers. Randy has been smoking hot all season, and makes me wonder why the Blue Jays would not bring him up to the majors and add his bat to their line-up!! Teammate Kevin Howard added 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Andy Baldwin had an overdue good outing Friday in Reno, throwing 5.2 shut out innings for Tacoma in their eventual 8-0 loss to the Aces. Andy threw 101 pitches, allowing only 3 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6.
In Erie, Chance Chapman was in the right place at the right time again Friday night, and his 2.1 hitless innings of relief made him the winning pitcher in Reading's 6-4, 10-inning win over the Sea Wolves. Chance is now 6-1 , 2.81 for Reading, and 9-2, 1.95 overall for 2009. Yohan Flande started for Reading, and after allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in the 2nd inning, settled down and slammed the door, allowing his team to get back in it. Brian Staviski and Carlos Leon had 3 hits each for Reading, Staviski hitting his 9th homer. Quintin Berry also homered for the R-Phils, as well as picking up an another outfield assist.
Tyson Brummett pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th to nail down his 2nd save since being moved into that role.
In Clearwater, the Fort Myers Miracle defeated Jon Velasquez and the Threshers, 6-1. Velasquez went 5.2 innings , allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks and left the game trailing 3-1. Fidel Hernandez had the only 2-hit game for Clearwater.
