Clearwater up, Reading down

Javis Diaz broke out of a 3 for 23 funk with 4 hits, as the Clearwater Threshers scored 3 runs in the 7th inning to take a 4-3 win over Dunedin Thursday. Diaz had a 2-out, 2-RBI single in the big inning to tie it and then scored the winning run on a single by Freddy Galvis. Jon Velasquez started and went 5 for the Threshers, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, but the bullpen of Santo Hernandez (1 IP), Walter Tejeda (1 IP, WIN) and Mike Schwimer (2 IP, save # 15) shut down the Jays.

In Reading, the Thunder threw up a 7-spot in the 7th, to snatch an 8-4 win for the R-Phils. Vance Worley started and pitched well for 6 innings, before giving up a home run and a single to start the 7th. Mike Zaguski came in, and gave up 2 hits, a walk, and hit a batter, recording just 2 outs, and Chance Chapman did not fare much better, giving up 3 hits in a row before getting the 3rd out. Quintin Berry stole his 40th base, and is on target to get 50 for the 3rd year in a row.

The Reading bullpen will get a shot in the arm with the promotion of B.J. Rosenberg from Lakewood directly to Reading. Rosenberg had 19 saves and 7 victories for Lakewood, posting a 0.89 ERA for the Claws in 50.1 innings (he had pitched 28.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run at the time of his promotion).
