After a 3-6 home stand, the Lakewood BlueClaws took the opener of their 8-game road trip Monday in Savannah, 4-0 behind dominant pitching from Matthew Way. Way, making his 2nd start for Lakewood, threw 7 shut out frames, allowing just 3 hits, NO walks, striking out 11. Jordan Ellis notched his first save, finishing the game off with 2 scoreless innings.
Travis d'Arnaud and Troy Hanzawa had 2 hits and an RBI apiece for the BlueClaws, who won for just the 4th time in the last 12 games. Heitor Correa (7-5) will look to make it 2 in a row tonight.
In Clearwater, Drew Naylor pitched a complete game 4-hitter as the Threshers beat Tampa, 7-2. Drew won his 7th game of the year, walking just 1 and striking out 3. Freddy Galvis had 3 hits and scored twice, Fidel Hernandez had 2 hits, including a triple and Matt Rizzotti had a double, a walk, scored a run and drove in 2. The Threshers head for Lakeland to battle the Flying Tigers tonight.
Making the adjustment to AAA, Michael Taylor had 2 more hits for the IronPigs Monday, in a 4-3 loss to the Louisville Bats. Drew Carpenter suffered just his 3rd loss of the season, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk and is now 9-3, 2.86 on the year. In Indianapolis, Lou Marson had a double and drove in the only run for the Clippers in their 2-1 defeat to the Indians. On Tuesday, Carlos Carrasco will make his 3rd start for Columbus since the big trade. He has won his first 2 assignments and is now 8-9 for the year.
With the White Sox claiming Alex Rios off the waiver wire on Monday, this opens a spot on Toronto roster, and Randy Ruiz was not in Las Vegas' line-up Monday. I will be watching the transaction wire to see if Randy gets the call up today!
