The Reading Phillies' playoff push continued strong on Saturday in Erie with a 7-6 win over over Sea Wovles. It was the 4th win in a row for the R-Phils, who are now 60-46 on the year and 2 and a half games ahead of Bowie for the second playoff spot in the division.
Kyle Drabek started and, after giving up 4 in the 1st, settled into a 6 inning stint, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, 3 of them home runs. Mike Zagurski got the win, after blowing the save, recording 5 outs, and Sergio Escalona (1.59) picked up his 12th save.
Red hot Brian Staviski had a double, a home run, and 4 more RBI. Staviski is 10 for 16, with 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 8 RBI during the 4-game stretch!! Quintin Berry had a single, a double, a walk, scored 3 runs and stole another base, #39 for Q. Dominic Brown made his AA debut, going 0 for 3, with 2 walks, playing right field. The combination of Berry and Brown in the outfield should cover A LOT of ground!!
Mike Cisco is scheduled to make his AA-debut this afternoon, and Joe Savery should go for Lehigh Valley.
In Clearwater Saturday, the Threshers rallied for 3 in the bottom of the 8th inning, but came up a run short in their 5-4 loss to Ft. Myers. Tyler Cloyd took the loss, but pitched alright. Cloyd (2-4) went 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk. Carlos Monasterios allowed a run over 1.1 frames, before Dan Brauer threw a scoreless 9th. No Thresher had more than 1 hit, but Steve Susdorf (.390) parlayed his double into 2 RBI. If they stay on schedule, Edgar Garcia will make his 2nd start of the year this afternoon.
