Kendrick, Velasquez wrap up April with wins

Kyle Kendrick continues to show he wants back in the major leagues. Thursday night in Allentown, Kyle threw 6 innings of shut out ball, giving up just 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 4 in Lehigh Valley's 4-2 win over Toledo. Kyle is now 2-1, 2.77 for the season. Carlos Ruiz had a single, a double and 2 RBI to lead the IronPigs' attack, with Jason Donald contributing a double in 4 at bats. Looks like Carlos Carrasco will face Dontrelle Willis in tonight's game.

Down in Hickory, NC, the BlueClaws got back on the winning track, Jon Velasquez recording his league leading 5th win, a 6-4 triumph over the Crawdads. Jim Murphy (.364, single, double, 2 runs, RBI, Travis Mattair (.260, 2 singles, run) and Jesus Villegas (.429, 2 singles, 3 RBI) each had 2 hits for Lakewood, and Anthony Gose had a double, a run scored and his league leading 12th stolen base. Walter Tejeda gave up a run in 1.2 innings, and Ryan Bergh threw 2 scoreless innings to pick up his 3rd save.

Yohan Flande pitched another good game for Clearwater, but gave up his first earned run of the year. Flande is 3-0, 0.63, and got through 6 innings, 1 run, 3 hits, 3 walks. Chris Kissock gave up 2 runs, and absorbed the loss, as Dunedin won, 3-2. Dominic Brown (.288) homered for the 2nd straight game, and Mike Durant (.245) had his second consecutive 2-hit game.

In Reading, Michael Taylor (.338) smacked 2 doubles and a home run, scored 3 times and drove in 5, but it was not enough, as Altoona put up a 12-7 win. Quintin Berry also had 3 hits, scored 3 times and stole 2 bases (that's 9 SBs), but Michael Stutes could not find his stuff for the first time in '09. Stutes only made it through 2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits. Alex Concepcion also struggled through his 2.1 frames, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned on 4 hits. The final 3 runs were against Pat Overholt in his 2 innings.

In Midland, Texas, the Corpus Christi Hooks salvaged the final game of the series against the Rock Hounds, 12-8. Adrian Cardenas was on base all 5 times, 2 hits, 3 walks, scored a run and drove 1 in. Adrian is up to .372. In Oklahoma City, the RedHawks scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th, to steal an 8-7 win from New Orleans. Greg Golson had a walk and scored a run in the winning rally. Greg is hitting .290 with 4 SBs. In Reno, Chris Roberson hit a pinch 2-run home run , helping the Aces to a 6-1 win over the Portland Beavers. Kevin Howard took an 0 for 3 for Portland, and Bobby Korecky threw a scoreless 9th for Reno. In Las Vegas, Randy Ruiz was 1 for 4 with a walk, as Las Vegas took a 4-3 decision from Salt Lake.

My calendar has Carrasco for Lehigh Valley, Matt Maloney for Louisville, Antonio Bastardo for Reading, Kyle Drabek for Clearwater and Tyler Cloyd for Lakewood.
