With Clearwater, Reading and Lehigh Valley all absorbing losses on Sunday, HomeSide highlights are at a premium today.
We start in Binghamton, where at least there was something to get excited about. How about 3 hits, including 2 home runs from Dominic Brown in the R-Phils 5-3 loss to the Mets. Dom is hitting .333 in 10 game since his promotion, and has hit 14 home runs overall this year.
Mike Cisco was the starter and was roughed up for 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits and a walk in just 4.1 innings.
The Threshers lost by the same 5-3 score to Tampa, despite 2 hits each from Fidel Hernandez and Mike Durant. Edgar Garcia lasted 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk. After Clearwater tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the 7th, Carlos Monasterios gave the 2 runs back to the Yankees and was saddled with the loss. "Monte" has been pitching well since his move to the pen, but did not have what he needed Sunday afternoon.
As far as the IronPigs are concerned, Mike Taylor was 1 for 3, and Pat Overholt gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks over 2 innings. But there are more of our boys on the Columbus Clippers than there are on the Pigs. After spending most of the season on the DL and being let go by the Diamondbacks, Jesus Merchan was signed by the Indians and assigned to Columbus, where he is 1 for 7 with an RBI since joining the Clippers. Lou Marson (.292) had 3 hits and scored a run for Columbus.
The Reading Phillies have 3 games in Trenton Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday if anyone wants to go root for our boys, and in another note, the Louisville Bats are in Allentown Monday-Thursday, which should give us an opportunity to see Matt Maloney pitch.
