18-hit performance gives Threshers a victory

In Clearwater, Zack Collier and Carlos Alonso hit 1st inning home runs, and then Alonso drove in Anthony Hewitt with the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to give the Threshers a wild 14-13 win over the Manatees.  Harold Martinez had 4 hits,  and Jim Murphy hit his 15th home run (78 RBI) for the Threshers.


In Akron Sunday, Darin Ruf hit his 30th home run of the year, but the R-Phils dropped a 10-4 game to the Aeros.  Julio Rodriguez took the loss, allowing 2 unearned runs in 2 innings of relief for Reading.




In Omaha, Jesus Sanchez had a rare shaky outing, walking 2 and allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, while recording just 1 out for Nashville in the Sounds' 5-1 loss to the Storm Chasers.......In Sacramento, Kevin Howard had 2 hits, including a home run, driving in 2 runs, and scoring 2 for Las Vegas in the 51s 9-4 win over the River Cats.  Michael Taylor (.293) had 3 hits including his 12th homer of the year, and drove in 3 runs for the Cats.............In Fresno, Jesus Merchan (.413) had 2 hits for the Padres, as Tucson defeated the Grizzlies, 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader.........In Pearl, Darren Byrd pitched a scoreless 9th inning for Huntsville, striking out 2,  to record his 6th save of the year in the Stars' 4-3 win over the Braves........In Springfield, Jonathan Singleton (.282) had 2 hits and scored a run for Corpus Christi, as the Hooks beat the Cardinals, 7-1.
