The Phillies have no luck this year. On Saturday, they placed their most consistent hitter of 2012 on the disabled list. Carlos Ruiz has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his left foot and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. Eric Kratz, who will get some of that time catching, hit a home run and drove in 2 runs yesterday, and Roy Halladay shut out the Diamondbacks on 3 hits and 1 walk over 7 strong innings in the Phils' 3-0 win over Arizona. Ryan Howard had 2 hits, and Domonic Brown was 1 for 3 with an RBI single and a walk. Howard's second hit came against Mike Zagurski, who allowed a run on 2 hits, pitching to 3 hitters. "Z-man" did strike out Chase Utley in between the 2 hits.
In Oakland, Anthony Gose had 2 hits, including a long double that came a few feet from being a home run for the Blue Jays in Toronto's 3-1 11-inning win. Gose (.205) also had a successful sacrifice bunt, and made a nice diving catch in the bottom of the 10th. Michael Taylor was 0 for 4 for the Athletics..........In Detroit, Quintin Berry (.286) had a hit and a walk in the Tiger's 6-1 win over the Indians.
In Chicago, the Angels got to Gavin Floyd for 3 runs in the 1st, as Gavin struggled early on to find his control after a half hour rain delay. Floyd did settle in, going 6.1 innings and leaving after allowing a long home run to Albert Pujols with 1 out in the 7th. In all, 5 runs on 8 and 3 walks (all in the 1st) for Floyd, and no decision as the Angels won it 6-5 in the 10th.
