After Tuesday night's game, the Phillies sent Jake Diekman and Joe Savery back to Lehigh Valley. They also officially promoted Sebastian Valle, and Cesar Hernandez from Reading to Lehigh Valley.
On Wednesday, Vance Worley threw 7 strong innings and the Phillies used 3 home runs to take a 3-2 win over the first place Nats. Worley (6-6) allowed just 2 UNearned runs on 6 hits and 1 walk. Antonio Bastardo retired the only hitter he faced, to notch his 18th hold of the season. Ryan Howard slipped to .206, going 0 for 3 (with a walk) and Domonic Brown was 0 for 4, but hit the ball hard a couple of times. The win for Worley was #46 this year for the HomeSide.
In Chicago, Adrian Cardenas made his 19th pinch hitting appearance for the Cubs, striking out in the 9th inning of an 8-4 loss to the Pirates. Cardenas was tearing up the Pacific Coast League, so the Cubs should really put him in the line up before he losses his groove.
In Boston, Quintin Berry (.282) was 1 for 4 with an RBI (#23) for Detroit in the Tigers' 7-5 win over the Sox, and in Seattle, Anthony Gose was 1 for 3, a bunt single, for the Jays in Seattle-s 5-3 win. Anthony is 6 for 31 (.192) in his first 10 games with Toronto.
