5 hits by Myers not enough for Reading

In Reading, the Trenton Thunder outscored the Phillies, 14-12, despite 5 hits , including 2 doubles, by D'Arby Myers.  Myers (up to .324 since getting to play) also stole 2 bases, scored 3 times, and knocked in 3 more runs. Regular followers of this blog know I have been yelling for D'Arby to get a chance, and I am thrilled with his results!  Cody Asche chipped in with 3 hits and 4 RBI, and Darin Ruf did NOT hit a home run, which is a story on to itself!  Brody Colvin allowed 11 runs, 7 of the earned, on 9 hits in 5.2 innings, as his transition to AA continues to be rough one.

In Buffalo, Sebastian Valle (.289) had 3 hits for the 2nd straight day, to help the IronPigs to a 5-2 win over the Bisons.  Valle hit his 3rd home run since his promotion, and drove in 2 while scoring 2 more.  Mike Spidale (.270) and Derrick Mitchell (.229) added a hit each, and Justin De Fratus recorded his 3rd save for Lehigh Valley.

In Greensboro, Colin Kleven pitched a solid game, (7 innings, 1 earned run on 6 hits and NO walks) to record his 7th win of the year, and Maikel Franco drove in 3 runs (69)  top help the BlueClaws take a 5-4 win from the Grasshoppers. Franco leads the team in RBI after having just 26 in the opening half of the year.  Gabriel Lino had 2 hits, including his 2nd home run of the road trip, and Brock Stassi and Alejandro Villalobos also had 2 hits each for Lakewood.

In Tampa, the Yankees beat Clearwater, 4-2.  Harold Martinez had 3 hits, including a double, driving in 1 run and scoring the other one for the Threshers.  Perci Garner (5-9) was the starter and loser for Clearwater, with Hector Neris and Mike Nesseth tossing scoreless relief.

In Huntsville, Darren Byrd (2.70) allowed 1 hit in 1.2 innings, but the hit drove in the  tying run for Montgomery, who went on the beat the Stars, 4-3 in 10 innings.  It was the 5th blown save of the season for Byrd..............In Nashville, Jesus Sanchez (4-0, 1.02) threw 2 scoreless innings of relief, and was awarded the win when the Sounds scored in the bottom of the 10th to take a 3-2 win from Tacoma.  In 63 innings this year combining AA and AAA, Sanchez is 7-2, with a 1.43 ERA and 11 saves.........In San Jose, Travis Mattair (.269)  had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs for Bakersfield, as the Blaze shut out the Giants, 4-0.  "Moose" now has 76 RBI for Bakersfield..........

In a note I missed Monday, the Corpus Christi Hooks have placed Josh Zeid on the 7-day DL.
