Pigs lose, Claws win

In Pawtucket, Steve Susdorf (.276) and Cesar Hernandez (.333 since his promotion) had 2 hits each for the IronPigs, but nobody else in the line up managed to scratch, and Lehigh Valley dropped a 7-1 decision in the finale of their series with the Red Sox.  Tyson Brummett, who has been pitching much better lately, tossed 2 scoreless frames for the Pigs. Lehigh Valley is now 2.5 games behind the Sox for first place, and 1.5 games behind Scranton for the final playoff spot.

In Charleston, Kelly Dugan (.288) and Brock Stassi had 3 hits each, with Stassi knocking in 4 runs, as the BlueClaws salvaged the final game of their series against the Power, 8-5.  Lino Martinez (6-5) picked up the win, making it through 5 innings, while Felix Santos and Zack Cooper threw scoreless relief.  In a division that nobody seems to want to win, the BlueClaws, at 23-22 are still in the hunt, and are just a short winning streak from being able to pull out this 4-team race.  Lakewood will open a 4-game set with Kannapolis Wednesday night on the Jersey shore!

In Indianapolis, Greg Golson's RBI single in the top of the 8th inning gave the Charlotte Knights a 1-0 over the Indians in a game in which each team got just 3 hits.  It was RBI #40 for Golson, who is 5 for 24 since returning from  a month on the DL..........In Sacramento, Michael Taylor had 3 walks and scored 2 runs for the River Cats, who lost a 5-3 game to the Sounds.  Jason Jaramillo was 1 for 4 for Nashville.........In Midland, Matt Rizzotti (.321) had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and knocked in another as the Rock Hounds beat Corpus Christi, 8-4.  Jonathan Singleton drove in a run (#63) with a sacrifice fly for the Hooks.........In Huntsville, the Stars defeated Pensacola, 5-3.  Darren Byrd (2.76) threw a 1-2-3 9th inning to notch his 4th save for the Stars.
