Byrd, Stutes sharp

Both Clearwater and Reading bounced back with wins on Friday, the Threshers topping the Stone Crabs, 2-0 behind 5 shut out frames from Darren Byrd. Byrd has been getting it together lately, despite being moved in and out of the rotation depending on injuries and player moves. Darren is now 3-3, and has not allowed an earned run in his last 2 starts, 11 innings. Carlos Monasterios pitched 2 clean innings, Scott Mathieson added a shut out frame (picking up 3 Ks), and Mike Schwimer finished it off with his 11th save. Cody Overbeck and Fidel Hernandez had the RBIs with 2 hits each.

In Bowie, Mike Stutes went 7.1 innings in the R-Phils 7-1 win over the BaySox. Mike gave up 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks, striking out 8 to improve to 8-5, 3.71 for the year. Kevin Mahar (.323) and Neil Sellers (.325) had 3 hits apiece for Reading and Quintin Berry (.275) added 2 of his own to lead the Reading attack.
