Monday's best performances

Here are a few notes I noticed from Monday's action-

Gavin Floyd picked up his 8th win of the year, with a 7-inning stint for the White Sox against the Rays. Gavin allowed only 3 hits, all solo home runs, and walked just 2, sweating out the last 6 outs shared by 3 relievers. At 8-6, 4.40, Floyd is having a good follow up to last year's 17 wins.

In Lakewood, Trevor May was good for a solid 6. 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, 7 Ks. The BlueClaws lost, 5-2 in 11 innings in the finale of the home stand. Anthony Gose had 2 more hits, a walk, and stole 3 more bases (total of 53), moving him ever-closer to the team mark of 59. The team heads for Asheville, North Carolina for the next 4 games beginning Wednesday night.

In Clearwater, Jon Velasquez also pitched well enough to win, but suffered a 3-2 loss instead to the Sarasota Reds. Jon went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks, and is now 1-2, 2.70 since his promotion. Walter Tejeda and Chris Kissock pitched scoreless relief. Dominic Brown had 3 hits, a total of 7 in his 4 games back from the DL, and Javis Diaz stole his 20th base.

Quintin Berry (.276) had 2 hits, and stole 2 more bases giving him 34 on the year, in Reading's 8-2 loss to Altoona, and Greg Golson (.272) had 2 hits and scored a run for Oklahoma City in their 3-1 win over New Orleans.

I also have to mention Brian Mazone, who threw 6 shut out innings for Lehigh Valley last night. Mazone won 9 games for the IronPigs last year, and is still seeking his first victory in 4 starts for Lehigh this summer.
