Reading comes from behind

After spotting the Altoona Curve 5 runs in the second inning, the Reading Phillies came back to defeat them 6-5 in 12 innings Tuesday night. Yohan Flande made his debut for Reading and after a shaky inning in which he walked 1, hit a batter and gave up a home run, Flande settled down and did not give up another run through his 6 total innings. In he meantime the offense got into the game, scoring 4 of their own in the bottom of the 3rd.

Overall, Quintin Berry had 3 hits, including a triple, drove in a run, and stole 2 bases, raising his league leading total to 24. Brad Harman, Brian Stavisky and Kevin Mahar added 2 hits each, Mahar the game winning home run in the bottom of the 12th. Mahar is 14 for 28 over the last 6 games.

Jeremy Slayden pinch hit for pitcher Jason Mackintosh in the bottom of the 9th, walked and scored the game tying run, setting up Mahar's heroics.

Alex Concepcion (1.1 IP, 2 hits), Mackintosh (1.2 IP, 3K), Mike Zaguski (1 IP, 3K) and Chance Chapman (2 IP, 3K, win) threw scoreless relief for Reading.

Kyle Drabek will go tonight after Phillies reliever Scott Eyre throws 1 inning on a rehab assignment.

The Clearwater Threshers were rained out in Florida Tuesday.
