Berry gets 3 hits; Ryno slams first dinger

In Detroit Monday night, Quintin Berry (.297) had 3 hits, 2 stolen bases (14), an RBI (18) and scored 2 runs for the Tigers in  their 8-6 win over the Angels.......In Cincinnati, Alfredo Simon (1.53) pitched 3 scoreless innings for the Reds, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2 and keeping the Reds in the game, which the Diamondbacks won, 5-3.  In his last 10 appearances, covering 19.2 innings, Simon has allowed 2 runs, both in the same game for an ERA of 0.92 over that stretch!

In San Diego, Jay Happ (7-9, 4.83) threw 6.1 shut out innings (4 hits, NO walks, 4 Ks) to lead the Astros to a 2-0 win over the Padres. It was win #41 for HomeSiders in the major leagues this year (the 3rd in the last 3 days)........In Los Angeles, Ryan Howard hit his 1st home run of the year, and Carlos Ruiz (.353) chipped in with a hit, a walk and a run scored as the Phillies made 3 in a row, topping the Dodgers, 3-2.

Gavin Floyd had an MRI on his pitching elbow Monday and the good news is there is no structural damage.  There is tendinitis and some soreness in the flexor muscle that will force him to miss his scheduled  start in Boston this week, but it is unclear whether he will have to be put on the DL.  The treatment for right now is rest, and Gavin (7-8) is "day to day".
