Reading and Lakewood winners

In Allentown Friday night, the Columbus Clippers took a 6-2 victory off of the IronPigs.  Jason Donald (.255) had a double, a walk, and an RBI for the Clippers, and Mike Spidale (.267) had a single and scored a run for the Pigs.  Tyson Brummett threw 2 innings of relief, allowing a run on 3 hits and a walk for Lehigh Valley.  The IronPigs are currently 55-45, a half game behind Pawtucket for first place.

In Trenton, Sebastian Valle (.252) had 3 hits, including his 11th home run during the R-Phils 6-run 8th inning, helping Reading to an 8-3 win over the Thunder. Jonathan Pettibone (8-7) was the winner, going 5.2 innings of shut out baseball, allowing just 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7.  Tyler Knigge had a rare bad outing, allowing his first runs since his promotion.  Knigge allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks, without recording an out. Ouch!!  Reading is 50-48, and are 5.5 games out of a playoff spot.

In Port Charlotte, the Stone Crabs beat Clearwater, 10-4.  Edgar Duran (.258) had 3 hits, including 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Threshers.  Garrett Claypool made his 2nd appearance after spending over a month on the DL, working 2.2 innings and allowing just 1 hit.

In Hickory, the BlueClaws scored a run in the 8th inning on a Tim Carver double and a single by Kelly Dugan to tie the game, and then turned singles by Miguel Alvarez and Brock Stassi into the winning run in the 9th for a thrilling 9-8 win over the Crawdads.  Dugan (up to .291)  had 2 hits, 2 walks, and 3 RBI, and Aaron Altherr had a single, a double and a triple, knocking in a run and scoring 2 more to pace the Lakewood attack.  Kenny Giles picked up the win in relief, throwing 3 perfect innings and striking out 7 of the 9 hitters he faced!  The win leaves Lakewood and Hickory tied for first place, and the 2 teams will square off again tonight!

In Rancho Cucamonga, Domingo Santana (.307) belted his 16th home run of the season in the 9th inning to put the exclamation point on an 8-2 win for Lancaster. Santana's 76 RBI are second best in the California League...........In Albuquerque, Adrian Cardenas (.329) had 2 doubles and scored 2 runs for Iowa off Will Savage,  but the Isotopes prevailed, 10-7.  Savage was lit up to the tune of 6 runs on 8 hits and a walk in just 3 innings of work.  Will is 10-3 for Albuquerque, but has given up 35 earned runs in his last 44.2 innings, and ERA of 7.05 in his last 10 appearances............In Corpus Christi, the Hooks defeated Frisco, 7-5.  Josh Zeid continues to struggle, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 2 innings of work.  Josh's ERA for the season stands at 5.61............In Jackson, Darren Byrd (3.31) allowed a run on 2 hits in his inning for Huntsville, who dropped a 7-3 decision to the Generals.
