Kendrick effort wasted

In Philadelphia, Kyle Kendrick threw 7 shut out innings against the Braves, only to see Antonio Bastardo allow 5 runs in the 8th.  Bastardo walked 3, including 1 with the bases loaded, before allowing a grand slam home run to Brian McCann.  Bastardo's ERA has now ballooned to 5.34.  The Phillies managed just 5 hits in the 5-0 loss, 2 of the hits by Ryan Howard, as he played his first major league game since last October.  Carlos Ruiz (.349) was 0 for 4 for Philadelphia, and Michael Bourn (.305) was 0 for 3, with 2 walks and a run scored for Atlanta.

In Detroit, Quintin Berry (.294) was 1 for 4, a 2-run triple to get the Tigers off to a 2-0 lead on their way to a 4-2 win over Kansas City......In Houston, Jay Happ (6-9) pitched well for 5 innings, but in the end allowed 7 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk in 6.1 innings against Milwaukee, who beat the Astros, 7-1......In Phoenix, Mike Zagurski threw a scoreless inning against the Dodgers, recording his 2nd hold as the D-Backs won over LA, 5-3.
