In Allentown Sunday, the IronPigs swept a doubleheader from Pawtucket to reclaim first place in the IL North. Mike Spidale (.252) had 3 hits, an RBI and scored 2 runs and Steve Susdrof (.298) had 2 hits including a home run as Lehigh Valley took the day game, 8-5. BJ Rosenberg started and lasted 4 innings, allowed a run on 3 hits and a walk, striking out 2. Mike Cisco earned his fisrt AAA win with 2 perfect innings, before Joe Savery was lit up for 4 runs on 3 hits in just 1.1 innings. In the night game, Susdorf had another hit, and Tuffy Gosewisch chipped in with a hit and a walk as the Ironpigs grabbed a 2-1 win. After 3 nights with Lakewood, Ryan Howard was 0 for 2 for the Pigs in the night contest.
After 2 good starts for Reading, Mario Hollands had a rough one yesterday in Baseballtown. Mario (2-1 for Reading) allowed 4 in the 1st, and 6 runs in 6 innings overall, and Reading dropped a 7-5 decision to New Hampshire. Leandro Castro (.307) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI double, and is hitting .436 over the stretch........In Clearwater, Austin Wright was the victim of some bad defense, as Harold Martinez and John Hill each made an error in a 5-run 5th inning for Brevard County, and the Manatees went on to a 10-3 win. All of the runs in that inning were unearned, but Wright still suffered the loss to fall to 7-3. Austin Brough allowed a run on 2 hits in his inning.
In Lakewood, the Suns stopped the BlueClaws 3-game winning streak with an 11-9 win on a blistering hot afternoon at First Energy Park. Aaron Altherr had a double, and a long 2-run homer into the picnic area under the scoreboard in center field. It was home run #7 for Aaron, who also walked once and scored 3 times. Chris Duffy (.405) belted a 3-run shot and has extended his hitting streak to 17 games, and in 12 of the 17 he has had multiple hits. This is as hot an any BlueClaw has ever been over an extended period. The team record hitting streak is 24 games by Jiwan James 2 years ago. Duffy has hit 3 home runs in the homestand so far. Kyrell Hudson had 2 more hits, he is 6 for 9 the last 2 games, as did Bob Stumpo and Maikel Franco. Hoby Milner, who was drafted in June out of Univeristy of Texas and pitched just 5.2 innings for Williamsport, started and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 3 innings. His next start will come in West Virginia next week. Beware of the Toast Man in Charleston!
In Modesto, Domingo Santana (.292) belted a 2-run home run in the top of the 1st inning and Lancaster rode it to a 3-1 win over the Nuts. (Yes, the Modesto team is the Nuts) It was home run #11 for Domingo, and RBIs 51 & 52. Not bad for a kid who will not be 20 for another month!!..............In Reno, the Aces beat Las Vegas, 8-6. Anthony Gose (.298) was 2 for 5 for the 51s........In a wild one in Nashville, the Sounds got past the Iowa Cubs, 13-12. Adrian Cardenas (.328) had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and a walk, scored twice, and drove in a run for Iowa, and Jason Jaramillo had a walk and scored for Nashville.......In Tucson, Jesus Merchan had 2 hits, including a triple and drove in 3 runs for the Padres in their 10-6 win over Salt Lake......In Lake Elsinore, Travis Mattair (.259) had 2 hits and knocked in a run (#44) for Bakersfield, and the Blaze beat the Storm, 4-2.
