break time

The All Star break has come at a good time for the Phillies, who have lost 10 of their last 11 to fall 13 games below .500 at the break.  On Sunday, the Braves completed the 3-game sweep with Brian McCann once again supplying the game winning home run in a 4-3 Atlanta victory.  McCann homered in all 3 games for the Braves.  Michael Bourn (.311)  had 2 more hits and stole his 25th base for Atlanta.  Vance Worley (4-5, 3.54) started for the Phillies and went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks, leaving the game in a 3-3-draw. All-Star Carlos Ruiz (.350) had 2 hits and scored a run for Philadelphia, while Ryan Howard was 0 for 4. The Phillies will hope to regroup over the break.

In Detroit, Quintin Berry (.299)  had a single and a triple and scored a run for Tigers in their 7-1 win over Kansas City.  The Tigers go into the break with 5 wins in a row, improving to 44-42 on the year, and trail first place Chicago by 3.5 games.
