Happy 4th to everyone!! The first thing I notice this morning is that Toronto has called up Andrew Carpenter from Las Vegas. Carpenter was 6-3 in 24 games with Las Vegas this year, after winning 17 games for Clearwater in 2007, and making 17 appearances for the Phillies, including 12 last year.
The Phillies opened their series in New York Tuesday, and the Mets were all over them. Vance Worley (4-5, 3.46) allowed 6 runs on 10 hits and 1 walk in just 4 innings of work as New York took an 11-1 win. Jacob Diekman also allowed 2 runs, 1 earned on 2 hits in his inning, and Carlos Ruiz (.354) was 1 for 4, his 12th home run of the season accounting for Philadelphia's run.
In Detroit, the Twins rallied for 2 late runs to defeat the Tigers, 8-6. Quintin Berry (.295) had a walk and an infield single for Detroit......In Atlanta, Michael Bourn (.305) had 2 walks, a 3-run triple, and scored 3 runs for the Braves in their 10-3 pounding of the Cubs. Remember to vote for Michael for the final spot on the All-Star team!
