Byrd unflappable

Darren Byrd quietly continues to impress, throwing 8 shut out innings against the Miracle in Clearwater's 2-0 win. Byrd (4-3) has now thrown 19 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run. Freddy Galvis' 2-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th was the game winner.

Not to be outdone, Vance Worley led the Reading Phillies to a 2-0 win over Portland in Baseballtown. Worley improved to 7-8, 5.11 on the year by tossing 6 shut out innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks. Scott Mathieson (6 up, 6 down, 3K) continues his comeback, and combined with Sergio Escalona (3 up, 3 down, 2K, save #11) to throw perfect relief. Jeremy Slayden (.298) had a single and his 9th home run to lead the Reading attack. Quintin Berry had a single, a walk, and stole his Eastern League leading 38th base.
